Snowy With No Chance of Meatballs

March 23, 2013

Dear Snow,
Look, I know I've always told you how pretty you are and how much fun you can be to play in, but enough is enough.  I'm kind of over you now.  You make my legs turn red and my nose run, and although I enjoy a good shovel workout from time to time, I'm done for a while.  So could you please retreat to the mountains where you belong?  I promise we'll come visit you soon enough.
Love, Wendy  xoxo

It was downright frigid this day, but Daddy insisted we go play in the snow, because he is out of his mind.  There can be no other reason.

Daddy searched the town high and low for a sled but came up empty handed, so he bought a new inner tube to ride on instead.  Dale was so excited to see it come to life.

We gave it a good shot, but the hills weren't quite steep enough, and the wind was shockingly cold, so we headed back home where all the sane people were sitting on their couches under blankets.

In one last attempt to keep us all in the cold, Daddy gave us his best snow angel.

The kids were dumbfounded as to why their Daddy was lying in the snow.

Dale went ahead and did his own snow angel.

Rose, however, would have none of it.  She's one smart girl.

Snow Visitors

February 23, 2013

Guess who came to visit us?

My beautiful sister and her Lilybug, of course.  Who else would drive out to see me and my kiddos right after a major snowstorm?
We had been snowed in for several days and had not left the house other than to shovel shovel shovel.  Seeing Sara and Lily perked us right up.  There was only one thing to do; play in the snow.
My kids didn't understand that they were not wearing snow pants, and they went nutso covering themselves in freezing wet snow.

We were good and cold straight from the start, but we decided to build a snowman anyway.  It was fun and interesting to watch the children build together.  All three personalities came out.  Lily was super excited and gathered snow in a frenzy, Dale carefully sculpted and watched, and Rose wandered to and fro doing whatever she pleased.  I loved it!

The kids were so proud of their snow woman.

Isn't she pretty?

So Much Snow!

Once the snow finally stopped, it was time to start digging our way out.  It took me all day to shovel our driveway, doing it in small bursts, and I never did finish.  To top off our shoveling trauma, I left the kids' snow pants in Colorado with Daddy, because clearly that makes sense.  Good times.

Dale did a great job being my little helper.  He spent the whole time we were outside attempting to shovel snow off the driveway, because he wanted to be helpful.  He's such a good kid.

Rose, on the other hand, spent all her time climbing the mountains of snow surrounding the driveway.

SNOW!

We had one great snow day in December.  It was cold and a little windy, but there was no way I was going to let my kids miss the chance to experience the one single snow of December.  Both Dale and Rose were pretty excited to play in the snow, even though the wind was so fierce it bit their noses.

I was hoping my kids would help me finish shoveling the giant snow drift off the driveway, but they both preferred shoveling the grass instead.

Dale went all out.  He shoveled, built snowballs, and made one snow angel.

Back inside, we all warmed up with hot chocolate.
