Christmas With the Rices

A few days after Christmas we headed for Olathe to celebrate the holiday with the Rice family.  Grandma left all the delightful decorations up for us, and we pretended like it was Christmas day all over again.

Rose had a great time exploring Grandma and Grandpa's tree.

Everyone looked so nice and cheery.

My attempt to photograph this Rice trio started like this...

Then this happened...

And finally, it was a full blown takeover.

We ate and drank and had a little gift exchange.

We tried to get Grandpa to take a drink from his new toilet cup, but he refused for some reason.

The Rice family at the end of the day...

Tired but happy.
And totally nuts.

Christmas Day

December 25, 2012

We took our time getting up on Christmas morning, because we were still recovering from The Crud, but Santa had come, and it was hard to contain our excitement.
We were lucky to have Monga visit us for Christmas this year.  It was so nice to share our special moments with her.  We had a lot of fun and made many great memories as we celebrated the holiday for the last time in our Manhattan home.

Santa ate his cookies and fed the carrots to his reindeer and then left fairy wings for Rose and a pirate ship for Dale under the Christmas tree.

We put the gate up in the hallway the night before to prevent Dale from opening all the presents while everyone else was sleeping.

Nope, it never dawns on him to climb over.

Our poor sick Rose and Dale loved their new presents from Santa.  Rose immediately became a fairy princess, and Dale began shooting missiles from his pirate ship.

We opened many fabulous gifts, such as Little People princesses, cars, rockets, hats, books, and movies.  Rose's big gift from Mommy and Daddy was her own sing along MP3 player, while Dale received his very own laptop.  Both gifts were huge hits.

We had cinnamon rolls and drank the special rare coffee that Santa brought Mark.  We wiped boogers and watched the kids play for hours.  It was a merry Christmas for sure.

I love my mommy.
My two favorite ornaments this year:  Dale's candy cane he made at school, and Rose's Princess Ariel.  Both are very representative of each child's year.

Once we had opened all our gifts and let the dust settle a little, we decided to call Grandma and Grandpa to wish them a Merry Christmas.  Both Dale and Rose showed their grandparents all the new toys, and Rose even put on a mini performance.

In fact, the show continued for much of the day.  You can never hear "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid too many times, right?

Sister's got soul.

Oh, and did I mention that we had Josie's sausage ravioli for Christmas dinner?  Yep.  It was totes awesome.

Christmas Eve

On the morning of Christmas eve, Dale and Rose were holding on to yucky colds that carried buckets of boogies with it.  We did our best to lighten the mood by getting dressed up and carrying on with our usual plans.

Rose now makes this face when she's talking.
Poor sweet Dale tried so hard to be energetic and happy even though he was covered in snot.

With the birth of Dale came the new tradition of opening a gift on Christmas Eve:  Jammies!

Before we got all comfy in our new Christmas jammies, we had mermaid time.

All clean!

What do you do when you're all clean?  Make cookies, of course!

Yummy cookies just for Santa.  Made with love...and boogers.

A Christmas Program

December 21, 2012

At the end of the semester, Dale's preschool held a wonderful Christmas program at the church.  We got all dressed up and went downtown for the fun.

Dale looked so handsome that he got several compliments from the teachers.  He was very proud of himself.

I swear it was the best preschool Christmas program EVER!

Dale was absolutely adorable on that stage.  He did all the actions and sang all the songs.  His favorite song was called, "There's room in my heart for Jesus," and he still sings it at home today.

Once the program was over, the kids got to decorate and then eat cupcakes.  What a treat it was for Dale.  He picked his spot at the table right next to his best friend, Benen.

This is the only picture I got of Dale with his teacher Mrs. Armstrong, because he got all shy when she approached us.  Although Mrs. Armstrong swears Dale is the opposite of shy in class.  Hmmm.

Once we got back home, the kids played for several hours.

Eventually everyone pooped out.
