More Masterpieces

Dale went through a phase with his art where he cut up little tiny pieces of paper to draw on.  They.  Were.  Everywhere.  I mean, I bent over at least eight million times a day to pick up teeny tiny papers, and oh no, I wasn't allowed to throw away a single one.

I had to come up with a way to pick up all of Dale's art scraps without putting them into the garbage.  The answer?  Collage!  We had a great time making collages for several days, and Dale came up with some fun art works along the way.

A few weeks earlier, Dale went to see Despicable Me 2 with Monga, so his art was dominated by the subject of minions for several days.

"Trying to turn purple minions back to yellow minions."

"A minion fountain with toilets.  And they just wipe with toilet paper and pull pants up and wash their hands."

Finally when Dale was done drawing minions he came up with this "shark alien with the sun and the dark and the lightening and the rain."

As for Rose, she loves to use every marker or crayon she can reach, and her pieces end up being very colorful and vibrant.

Art at the Promenade

There is a fabulous string of summer events for children hosted by the Promenade Shops at Centerra in Loveland, and art day was at the top of our summer fun list.  Dale warmed right up and welcomed every event or project.

The Dude tried with all his might to hula hoop.  Mostly that consisted of him running around in circles holding the hoop.

Dale made his own jester's hat, decorated a ceramic heart, and painted his own bookmark.

This is what Rose did...

She has the meanest mommy ever.

Finally Rose calmed down and joined her big brother at the canvas painting table.  Both Dale and Rose created such beautiful masterpieces.

Rose even got her face painted...for the first time ever!  She chose a blue butterfly to match her dress.

Dale is being a snake, and Rose is being a butterfly.

They even had cotton candy!  Rose gobbled hers up so fast, while Dale held onto his and nibbled it slowly for the rest of the day.

I finally got her to put on her princess crown I made for her.

Little Artists

Both kids have been creating great masterpieces.  Here's a few good ones:

Waiting For Daddy

The weather has been so snowy lately, that I had to plan our next drive to Colorado to fall in between snowstorms.  We made it safely into town, even though Daddy was in a whole different state.  What to do?  Color, of course!

Dale's pictures are becoming quite odd.  They are very machine-like and every line has a purpose.  He is in a sense building his drawings, if that makes sense.

This picture depicts space in the sky with some sort of machine coming down out of it.  The white creature on the bottom right is a friendly ghost.  I snapped these photos before Dale was done drawing, but in the bottom left corner of the picture appeared a green "bad" ghost.  If you ask Dale what the center machine part is he will tell you it is "a secret."  Lots of pictures are secrets nowadays.

Since Daddy wasn't around to play with, Rose played with all his stuff instead.  She really liked his KU hat and knew she looked super cute in it.

Snow Day Painting

We knew it was coming, so we hunkered down with extra bread and peanut butter and crossed our fingers that the power would stay on...and it did!  The fabulous Kansas snowstorm was beautiful and surprisingly cheery, and we spent several days stranded in our house watching movies, cuddling, and making great art.

The kids love it when I bring out the paint, because we don't do it all that often.  I prefer the easiness of markers and crayons on any normal day.  Yet this day wasn't normal, so out came the mess.

I could not get Dale to take a picture any other way than with his hands up like this.

While Dale preferred to mix mix mix with the palms of his hands, Rose got creative with the tips of her fingers.

The Lay of the Land

In our Colorado apartment, Rose and Dale share a bedroom.  To make it nicer, Daddy brought a big carpet scrap from our house in Kansas, and then he set up the kids' fun tents to sleep in.  Miraculously, the tent keeps Rose happy in her pack n play so that everyone can get some sleep.

Rose and Dale sharing a room?  They don't mind at all.

Daddy also got Dale and Rose their own squishy bean bag chairs to chill out in.

It may not be ideal, but we sure are getting some fun art pieces from Dale in the meantime.

"Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Twilight Sparkle" and "Rainbow Dash" by Dale. In case you were wondering, these are characters from My Little Pony, a show Dale happens to love a whole lot.

Dale drew two of the droids on this paper.  He even included the letters by the pictures.

The living room/dining room is one long dark room, but at least its length allows Dale to run back and forth from one side of the apartment to the other.

To add some color, we've decorated the apartment walls with lots of art pieces.  We also want to make sure Daddy has a bit of cheer when his family is not around.
